Certificates
Death Certificate
Register a death and obtain the official death certificate.
About this service
A death certificate is issued under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 by the local Registrar. It records the name, date, place and cause of death, and is required for insurance claims, pension settlement, property transfer and closing official records.
Who can apply
Every death in India must be registered within 21 days. The head of the household, nearest relative, or the hospital or institution where the death occurred can report it. Delayed registration needs additional affidavits and fees.
How to apply
Report the death at the hospital or local Registrar office (municipal body or gaon panchayat) with the deceased identity proof. Apply on the Civil Registration System portal or state service portal, then collect the printed certificate.
